The American showed gritty resolve to defeat Tony Finau in a tense playoff to earn his second win on the PGA Tour.

“Been watching this tournament my whole life, just wow,” said a teary Homa.

“Tiger is the reason why I’m in golf. I had good feelings this week, so it’s a weird feeling. I might have to apologise to him… you’re not supposed to miss a three-footer in front of Tiger Woods. But I got it done.

“I’m very proud of myself. My coach and I talked about playing like Tiger today. ‘A lot of strategy, trust yourself’ and I did that. I didn’t make a bogey this entire day going back to the restart which is pretty darn good in my opinion.

“I saw Tiger the other day but I was scared to talk to him, now he is forced to talk to me today so it’s going to be a pretty awesome moment.”

Homa’s first win came in 2019 on the difficult Quali Hollow course at the Wells Fargo Championship. Now, with a win at the tricky Riviera course under his belt, Homa is starting to make a name for himself. When asked about his growing resume of winning at iconic courses, Homa attributed his success to brains and brawn.

“I think I have a game that fits difficult golf courses and I’ve finally started to build a mind that fits difficult golf courses,” continued the 30-year-old.

“When I come here, I know it really well, I feel very comfortable… I think its the best golf course in the world. You mix all those things together and you start to see some really good golf.

“But I’m hoping this is just the beginning. I’m not sure what the next hardest golf course is but I will give it a try.”
