Joost Luiten had too much for Chris Wood in their Sunday battle as he won his sixth European Tour title at the inaugural NBO Oman Open.
Al Mouj Golf hosted a brilliant event this week in Oman as it made it’s European Tour debut and the tournament was given a fitting conclusion as Luiten and Wood threw everything at each other.
In the end it was the former who was victorious by two strokes.
Holding the overnight lead, Luiten carded a closing 68 to get to 16-under-par while Wood could only manage a closing 69 which left him at 14-under-par.
The conditions were close to perfect in Oman and so it really was just about who could produce the goods on the day.
Speaking afterwards, Luiten admitted that he was delighted to be able to add a tenth professional title to his trophy cabinet but added that he has his sights set on bigger things this season.
"This is why you play golf, to hold trophies," he smiled
"It's been a great week.
"It's always tough to win out here, all these guys are so good and they keep putting pressure on you.
"Down the stretch I hit some nice shots, I made some nice putts and it was a nice battle with my friend Woody.
"I need to win another couple to get into the Ryder Cup Team but it's a great start to the year for me."
